Mozambique
Mozambican president Filipe Nyusi met with opposition leader Afonso Dhlakama on Sunday as they seek to consolidate peace after several years of instability in the country.
A press release from the presidency said the head of state and the opposition leader will conclude a deal on the peace process by the end of the year.
The RENAMO opposition of Mr. Dhlakama took back arms in 2013 to challenge FRELIMO.
RENAMO members are calling for more decentralization and better conditions for their members who are being integrated into the police and army.
In 2016, Afonso Dhlakama declared a unilateral cease-fire which was indefinitely extended to advance negotiations with the government.
Afonso Dhlakama who has escaped two assassination attempts now lives in the Gorongosa mountain where he is preparing for the 2019 elections.
